The Program

Three Phases. One Transformation.

Each phase builds on the last, taking you from observer to confident, certified artist.

1

Foundation & Orientation

Get immersed in the DC Lash Bar world. You'll rotate between front and back of house, supporting daily operations while gaining a comprehensive overview of our organization, services, and the clients we serve. This is where you build the foundation that everything else rests on.

2

Responsibility & Growth

Step into a bigger role. You'll take on opening responsibilities and learn spray tanning, expanding your service skills while demonstrating the reliability and professionalism that define our team.

3

Artistry & Certification

This is where it all comes together. Learn how to tint and perm lashes and brows from our in-house trainer, Hollyn, with an opportunity for certification upon successful completion of the class.

Intensive Application Period: Put your knowledge and skills to work on real, paid models in a consecutive, focused format designed for rapid skill development through repetitive services. You are solely responsible for recruiting your own models. Your paired mentor reviews case studies and provides hands-on adjustments to guide your development in real time.
Service Progression

Four Tiers of Mastery.

Apprentices advance through each tier as skills are assessed and signed off by their mentor. Each tier builds on the last — by Tier Four, you're delivering a full lash and brow experience from start to finish.

Lash & Brow Tints
Level One

The entry point. Color services build the foundation — client consultation, patch testing, tone selection, and precise application on both lashes and brows.

Focus: Color theory, timing, skin safety, client communication

Lash Lifts & Brow Laminations
Level Two

Adding shape and lift. Students learn how to use lifting solutions, select the correct silicone shields, manage processing times, and develop the precision needed to shape and define both lashes and brows.

What You'll Learn: Lifting technique, processing times, shaping, symmetry

Brow Wax & Threading
Level Three

Hair removal services that require a steady hand and a strong eye for shape. Apprentices master both waxing and threading to give clients a clean, sculpted finish.

Focus: Face shape analysis, hair removal technique, skin care protocols

Lash & Brow Package
Level Four

The full service experience — all disciplines performed simultaneously on a single client. This tier marks the culmination of the program and readiness for a full client schedule.

Focus: Service sequencing, timing, client experience, efficiency

"The best artists never stop learning. They just find the right place to start."

Questions

What You Want to Know.

No prior lash experience is required. The core program covers lash lift and tint and spray tanning — both taught from the ground up. Lash extensions are an advanced certification offered selectively to apprentices who demonstrate exceptional performance. What matters most when applying is your attitude, reliability, and commitment to learning.

An active esthetician or cosmetology license from DC, Maryland, or Virginia is required — or documented progress toward obtaining one. You must hold an active license before advancing to client service work in Phase Three.

The 2026 cohort runs July through September — approximately three months. The timeline is structured around your progression through each phase, so your pace through the program depends on your skill development and readiness assessments, not a fixed calendar.

Yes. Apprentices are paid $17/hr for all working hours throughout the program. Once you begin performing services in Phase Three, you keep 100% of the tips from every service you complete.

Graduates who meet all program requirements and hold an active license are considered for full-time artist positions at DC Lash Bar. Full-time artists work four days per week with a built client schedule. Advancement beyond that is based on performance, skill level, and studio need.

The spray tanning track is completed as a virtual course during Phase Two. It includes coursework, case studies, and hands-on practice with models. You are responsible for recruiting your own models for the practical portion. Upon completion, you'll be prepared to perform spray tanning services on clients in Phase Three.

Cohort sizes are intentionally small. We keep the program intimate so every apprentice receives direct, hands-on mentorship rather than a classroom experience. Space is limited — if you're serious about applying, we encourage you to submit early.
